Obituary of Dorothy Kouyzer

Kouyzer, Dorothy Jean (nee Maine) It is with great sadness that we share the timely passing of our wonderful Mother, Grandmother, and Great-Grandmother, who passed away peacefully on Friday, March 6, 2020 in her 97th year. Wife of the late Leo Kouyzer (2001). Born in Chatham, Daughter of the late Jack & Lillian (nee Legue) Maine. Dear Mother of Janice Kouyzer and the late Bill Kouyzer (2015). Adored by Grandsons, Bill Kouyzer (Rebecca), David Kouyzer (Jen), Adam Bechard (Monica), Brandon Bechard (Jennifer), and Cameron Bechard (Rebecca). Predeceased by Granddaughter, Denise Kouyzer (1971). Proud Great-Grandmother to Zachary and Justin Kouyzer, Liam and Cole Bechard, Beau and Luke Bechard, and Cambrie Mary Jean Bechard, Dorothy is survived by her sister, Eleanor Hodulik and daughter-in-law, Donna. Predeceased by brothers, Stanley and Gerald Maine, and sisters, Virginia Graham, Barbara Bowes, Gwendolyn Hanuszak and Maxine DeKoning. Dorothy graduated as a licensed hairdresser in 1945 and worked for many years at "The Bob-Bett Beauty Parlour". Countless hours were spent working side by side with husband Leo, remodeling and renovating houses. Fondly remembered by family and friends for her fabulous cooking, and natural ability to play any musical instrument by ear. A member of First Presbyterian Church for 78 years, Dorothy was a active participant making many delicious pies for church functions. Irish by decent, she was always active on St. Patrick's Day, and tried to instill a "Wee bit O'Irish" in everyone. Dorothy's Grandchildren, "Her Boys" were her life, and she was proud of each and every one of them. Her beauty will be surpassed only by her dignity, compassion, and charm, and she will be sadly missed by all who knew her. Her thoughts were, "Death is just a moment. Life is everything else leading up to it!" Family to receive friends on Wednesday, March 11, 2020 at McKinlay Funeral Home, 459 St. Clair Street, Chatham from 11:00 am until the Funeral Service at 1:00 pm with Rev. Michael Maroney as officiant. Burial to follow in Maple Leaf Cemetery. In memory of Dorothy, donations may be made to the Children's' Hospital - London Health Sciences Centre or to the SickKids Foundation.
