Obituary of Robert Sellen
It is with tears and smiles that we say farewell to our beloved husband, father, and papa.
Bob and Marjoe (nee Carpenter) were married for 63 years and have two children, Janice Sellen and Rob Sellen (Jodi). He will be sorely missed by his six grandchildren, Lindsay Evoy (Eddie), Jacob Evoy (Kevin), Derek Evoy (Jordanne), Trevor Evoy (Amber), Abby Sellen (Garrison) and Cameron Sellen.
Bob was born at home on the farm in Oakbank, Manitoba to Raymond and Elizabeth Sellen (nee Draper). He was the second youngest of eleven children. He is survived by Helen, Andy, John, and George who still live in the Oakbank area. Predeceased by his siblings Raymond, Ester, Evelyn, Richard, Douglas, Francis, and grandson Jordan Evoy.
Bob and Marjoe moved to Thamesville, Ontario in 1973 when he accepted a job transfer opportunity with the Federal Grain Commission. After serving 25 years with the Commission, Bob left in 1978 to start Sellen Grain Services, where he served as company president until he sold the company in 2017. His tremendous work ethic and ability to listen to and connect with his customers allowed Sellen Grain Services to grow and flourish. Bob’s interest and concern for the welfare of others also led him to become a Rotarian, serving as the local president in 1977.
Bob loved nothing more than to visit with family and friends. He would embark several times during the summer months, driving to Winnipeg to enjoy the company of his many brothers, sisters, nieces, nephews, and friends. He and Marjoe enjoyed spending winters in Florida where he could continue to play golf and turn up his heels at the many park dinner dances. Bob loved having his grandkids visit him in Florida and showing them how to golf with the ‘gators.
In his senior years, Bob learned to embrace technology and most especially his iPhone because this allowed him to stay in touch with his family and most especially his grandkids. We will miss his paragraph long texts as he mastered the art of speech to text. He was also a master at telling jokes and stories.
We are smiling through our tears as we remember all the good and wonderful things Bob, Dad, Papa gave to us all. We are thankful for his long and healthy life that allowed us to enjoy him right to the end. We will miss his smile, his hugs, and his amazing love for us all.
Cremation has taken place. A Celebration of Robert’s life will be held at a future date.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or the Chatham-Kent Hospice Foundation.
