Obituary of Rene van den Heuvel

Marinus “Rene” van den Heuvel passed away at the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance, Chatham Campus, on Saturday, June 6th, 2020 in his 70th year. Beloved husband of 29 years to Kathy van den Heuvel (nee Carnegie). Forever looked upon as a father by Tammy (David) Richards of Dresden, Tracy (Mike) Vanderlip of Rushton’s Corners, and Todd (Jenn) Ameel of St. Thomas. Grandfather to Tyler, Colin, Riley, Sadie, Kyle, Hailey, Grace, and Abby. Survived by his sisters Wiess van den Heuvel of Holland, Dorie (Bart) Dykman of Chatham, as well as several nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his siblings Martin van den Heuvel, and Adrianna Mulders. Rene was actively involved in his church and community. He was an elder of Duart Presbyterian Church until its closure, becoming a member of St. James Presbyterian Church, Chatham, thereafter and serving on the Board of Managers until present day. He actively volunteered with the Salvation Army Food Drive, and Christmas Hamper Programs. Rene loved the outdoors, farming, and yard work. He could be heard humming or singing along to himself, always with an appreciation for music. Rene enjoyed woodworking as well. Foremost was his passion for family, and he would never hesitate to offer a helping hand when asked. A private family gathering will be held, followed by cremation and interment in Duart Cemetery.
