Obituary of Lois Mildred Mitchell

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Lois Mildred (McElroy) Mitchell, age 93, a resident of Chatham. She will be remembered with much love by her niece Sandy Durward (Robin Sweazey). She is also survived by several cousins in New Brunswick. She will be missed by many many friends and former students. Lois was a teacher & administrator with Kent County Board of Education for many years. Lois is predeceased by her parents, Ethel and Harold McElroy of Sussex, New Brunswick, her sister Bette Durward (Bob), nephew David Durward, her husband Bruce Mitchell and friend John VanderHeyden. In keeping with Lois’ wishes, there will be no visitation or funeral. Cremation has taken place. Her cremated remains will be scattered privately by family at a later date. Lois taught all of us what it means to be generous. In her memory, consider a ‘pay-it-forward’ type of act, an anonymous gift to a needy person or a donation to the local food bank.
