Obituary of Margaret Race
RACE: Margaret Joan - On September 24, 2020, after 97 years well lived, Margaret passed away at the Chatham-Kent Hospice and moved on to her eternal life. Predeceased by husband John (Jack) Race (1998). Loving mother of John (Marie), Chatham ON, the late Mark (2020) (Donna), Windsor NS, Michael (Laura), GrandFalls -Windsor NL and Patricia Belgrave (Michael), Halifax NS. Loved Grandma of 9 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.
Margaret was the daughter of the late Ermaline Papineau and Clifford Taylor and grew up in Chatham. She joined the Women’s Royal Canadian Naval Service in 1942 and was stationed in Halifax, where she met her husband. Their lives together were spent residing in St Thomas ON, Dartmouth, and later Windsor, NS, with their children. Together they enjoyed Square Dancing and travelling. In 2005, Margaret returned to Chatham and continued to be active, playing Duplicate Bridge, bowling and enjoying the outdoors on her walks.
Predeceased by brothers Harold, William, Thomas and James Taylor and by sisters, Marion Kearns, Theresa Robertson and Anne Conley. Survived by sisters-in-law Pauline Taylor and Iris Taylor.
Family will receive friends at the Funeral Home, 459 St. Clair Street Chatham on Monday, September 28, 2020 from 2:00 - 5:00 pm. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Blessed Sacrament Roman Catholic Church, 145 Victoria Ave, Chatham at 10:00am on Tuesday, September 29, 2020. Those planning to attend the visitation are required to register at (https://signup.com/go/BvnyTqk). Those planning to attend the Mass are required to register at (https://signup.com/go/pFqPWJp). You are also welcome to book either event by phoning the funeral home at 519-351-2040. The Bereavement Authority of Ontario have mandated that all attendees must wear a mask at both events.
