Obituary of Marvin (Mike) Thomas St. Peter
ST. PETER: Marvin (Mike) Thomas, 82, of Chatham passed away peacefully at home Saturday, November 21, 2020 surrounded by his loving family.
Born in Chatham August 31,1938 and raised in Tilbury East. Son of his late parents, Clarence St.Peter and Ethel (Pardo) St.Peter. Beloved husband and best friend of 59 years to Deloris (Armstong) St.Peter. Loving father of Sally Ramsdale and Mike Sedlacek, Linda Reaume and Randy Austin, and Karen and Chuck Catton. Mike will be missed by his sister, Donna Barr and step-sister and brother-in-law, Helen and Larry St.Pierre. Proud grandpa of Derick Ramsdale and Paige Keller, Jesse Ramsdale and Shelby Watchorn, Joshua Reaume and Raini Chauvin, Erin and Andrew Vanderveen, Aidan Catton, Chris and Heather Sedlacek, Jon and Meghan Sedlacek, and Jessica and Erin Kraft. Great grandpa to Lucas, Adrienne, Morgan, Rebecca, Quinn, Olivia and another one on the way. He was a beloved uncle to many nieces and nephews in the St.Pierre and Armstrong families.
Mike will be remembered for his sense of humour. He was a man who liked to tease, joke and always had a witty comment right up to the end. Mike was an outdoors man. He loved camping and was an avid fisherman, hunter and trapper. Mike was active in the community. He coached girls softball for thirty years in Tilbury and Merlin and will fondly be remembered as coach Marvin. He was a life member of Merlin Legion Branch 465, chairman of Merlin Community Assistance No Child Without A Christmas, and a member of the congregation at Fletcher United Church. He will be missed by his many friends there. One of Mike’s favourite hobbies was playing cards. He loved to play cribbage daily and was a tough one to beat at a game of euchre. Mike was also a talented artist. He had a passion for carving wildlife and recently discovered his talent for painting landscapes. Mike loved his vegetable garden and maintaining his lawn.
Special thanks to Dr. Rowden, the staff at Chatham Kent Health Alliance, Mary Beth Cadotte and the palliative care team from Erie St. Clair LHIN. Sincere gratitude to Donna Jean and Alan Pollard, and Barry and Colleen Dickson for the help and loving care given to dad these last two weeks.
