Obituary of Cathy Smith
SMITH: Cathy Ann -
A resident of Chatham, Cathy Smith passed away at the Windsor Regional Hospital - Ouellette Campus with her daughter at her side on Friday, February 5, 2021 at the age of 70.
Born in Toronto, Cathy was the daughter of Vincent and Erma (Eltervoog) Smith.
Loving mother of Melanie Anderson (Chris) of Chatham and Marshall Brooks (Jackie) of Aldersyde, AB.
Proud Grandma to Braxton, Brysen and Madison who will profoundly miss her. She made it known that she was overly excited to meet her expected granddaughter Emily.
Dearly missed by the father of her children and good friend John Brooks.
Dearly missed by her sister Dena Maidens (Joseph) of Barrie and Ruth Lundrigan of Newfoundland.
Fondly missed by nieces, nephews, friends and extended family.
Cathy retired from the Children's Treatment Centre after over 30 years of service and continued to help out in the years that followed. Cathy's passion was her family. Throughout her life, she enjoyed watching the family play baseball, going to Labour Day reunions and taking trips to the Bahamas with her 'outlaw' Carol. She enjoyed many summers with her family lounging at the beach in Goderich. She loved to sit out in the sun, and was often complimented on her tan. Cathy could be found at any event that the grandchildren participated in, often an hour early. She also incentivized them to do well with monetary gains. She was an avid cross-stitcher, making anything from Victorian era scenery to intricate patterns. She had an appetite for reading and could easily read a book in a day. Cathy will be remembered for how she dedicated her life to her family, always making sure they were well taken care of.
Cremation has taken place with a Celebration of Cathy's Life to be held at a later date.
Donations made in memory of Cathy to the Children's Treatment Centre Foundation of Chatham-Kent or a charity of your choice would be appreciated.
