On the evening of February 24th, 2021, Lionel Richie passed away peacefully surrounded by family at home in Chatham at the age of 80.
Loving husband to Sandra (nee Buchanan) for 40 years.
Cherished father to Dale (Julie) Richie, Carrol (Mike) Pishl, Brian Richie, Debbie (the late Greg) Taylor, Dennis (Nancy) Gow, Tammy (Rob) Lariviere and the late Harold Gow.
Grandpa to Alicia (Jason) Yoho, Caitie (Nick) Bultman, Mark (Kaitlyn) Matthew, Stephanie (Kari) Matthew, Chris Gow, Jeff Gow, Jason (Rachel) Taylor, Victoria (Lorne) Lamarsh, Nicole Gow, Michael (Morgaine) Lariviere, Jennifer (Tuan) Lariviere, Mike Pishl Jr., and the late Steven Matthew.
Great-grandpa to 7 great grandchildren.
Brother to Patrick (the late Joyce) Richie and sister-in-law Yvonne Richie.
Predeceased by his parents, Frank and Grace Richie, his brothers Harry Ritcher, Ben Richie, and Jerry Richie and his sister Cecile Richie.
He will be dearly missed by his companion, Marley.
The family wish to extend their thanks to the VON nurses for their care of Lionel during his final weeks.
Lionel was a huge Habs fan and an avid camper and reader. He was a devoted Catholic and attended services at St. Ursula's with Sandra regularly.
Family and friends will be received on Monday, March 1st, 2021 at McKinlay Funeral Home, Chatham, from 2:00pm to 4:00pm and 7:00pm to 9:00pm. A funeral mass will take place at Blessed Sacrament Parish, 145 Victoria Avenue, Chatham on March 2nd, 2021 at 11:00am, with interment to follow at Maple Leaf Cemetery, Chatham. Those wishing to attend the visitation must sign up at the following link https://signup.com/go/KCCVcEd and those wishing to attend the funeral must sign up at the following link https://signup.com/go/btTtUdf. Please note that the Bereavement Authority of Ontario mandates that all of those attending a funeral service must wear a mask.
In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Lionel may be made to the charity of your choice.
