Dennis Roebuck

Obituary of Dennis Walter Roebuck

ROEBUCK: Dennis Walter (November 29, 1941 - March 14, 2021) - Farwell to a devoted husband, father and brother, and a patriarch to his grandchildren and extended family in Ontario, Québec and Manitoba. A proud Chathamite, Dennis maintained friendships with people throughout all stages of his life. He made everyone around him feel comfortable and welcome. Dennis was embraced by his extended French-Canadian family and enjoyed seeing them up in Abitibi Québec where somehow language was never a barrier for shared good times and laughter. He was quick to smile, had the bizarre Roebuck sense of humour and loved teasing his mom Verna. In his quiet manner, Dennis was a lot like his father Alex: a good listener, he preferred to listen than talk. He took people at face value and was always interested in what you were doing. His workshop is where you would often find him. He enjoyed his morning walks, was a gifted woodworker, a great cook, gardener and loved to tinker at his many projects. Dennis was a two-time member of the Chatham Sports Hall of Fame, first, the 1956 Branch 431 Bantam Baseball All Stars and also with the 1958-59 Rotary Juvenile Ontario Champion Hockey Team. From this team the original Jr. Maroons was formed of which Dennis was a proud member. In his humility, he seldom spoke of his accomplishments. He was always honoured to wear the #5 of his hero, Brooks Robinson. Dennis is survived by his loving wife Marie, children Brooks, Sarah, Mary Frances ("Bear") and Sonya, grandchildren Stefan, Sebastian and Theodore and brother Glen. Sincerest thanks to Monica Faubert for her care in the last months of Dennis' life. Canada will now have to find a new best fan of the Baltimore Orioles. A Private Family Service will be held at Maple Leaf Cemetery, Chatham at a later date. Donations made in memory of Dennis to the Heart and Stroke Foundation would be appreciated.
