Obituary of Ralph Bisschop
RALPH BISSCHOP went peacefully at home to be with his Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ on April 6th, 2021, surrounded by his wife of 42 years. He was in his 75th year. He was born in The Netherlands on July 28, 1946. Son of the late Arend and Aalje Bisschop. His parents immigrated along with ten children to Canada in 1949.
Beloved husband of Helen (nee Mortier). Loving father of Karrie (Mark) Gevaert of Merlin, Jason Bisschop of London, Corey (Joanna) Bisschop of London, Genesia (Scott) Schoneck of Calgary Alberta. Sadly missed by 7 grandchildren, Travis and Brianna Gevaert, Avery, Noah and Resse Bisschop, Archer and Sullivan Schoneck.
Predeceased by infant Son Brodie Ryan in 1982, brothers John, Henry, and Harm, sisters-in-laws Nancy, Susan and June Bisschop, brothers-in-laws Case Timmerman and Jim King.
He is survived by brothers Art (Audrey) Bisschop, Hilbert Bisschop, Bill Bisschop, Albert (Audry) Bisschop, Tim (Cathy) Bisschop; and sisters Jessie Timmerman, Henny (Bram) Schoon, Glenda King and Nancy (Bill) Vandermeer, brother-in-law Gary (Deb) Mortier, sisters-in-law Annie Bisschop and Rita Bisschop, many nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, and many more extended family.
He was a member of Praise Fellowship Church in Chatham where he served as part of the weekly Prayer Team, helped as carpenter and set-up for VBS along with his wife Helen and also taught Sunday School to PFC children for 5 years. He also volunteered for the Mission Store and served and helped with the local Breakfast program at the downtown Presbyterian Church.
Ralph had a thirty-eight year career as a Letter Carrier with Canada Post and retired from there on January 4th, 2013. He was also a life long fan of the Toronto Maple Leafs, and he hoped he would see them raise another Stanley cup during his lifetime.
Resting at McKinlay Funeral Home, 459 St Clair Street Chatham. Family and friends are welcome to the visitation by appointment on Sunday April 11th, 2021 at 2:00pm -4:00 pm and 7:00-9:00 pm. Funeral will take place at Praise Fellowship Church, 165 Park Ave East, Chatham with Rev Michael Koppes officiating at 11:00 am on Monday, April 12th 2021 with visitation prior from 10 a.m. until 10:45 a.m. Those hoping to attend the Sunday visitation are required to register online at (https://signup.com/go/jKHHvvS) and those attending the Monday Visitation or Funeral Service are required to register online at (https://signup.com/go/TVJVYfW) or by phoning the funeral home at 519-351-2040. Interment will take place at Arnold Cemetery following the service.
