Obituary of Duncan Robert Davidson
Davidson: Duncan Robert -
A resident of Ridgetown, Duncan Davidson passed away suddenly at his home on June 23, 2021 at the age of 55.
Born in Hamilton, Duncan was the son of the late Robert and Patricia (Jamieson) Davidson.
Father to Alieya Davidson, Kieran Davidson, Mavis Davidson, Courtney Gray, Dwayne Gray, Justin Cartier, and Christopher Cartier.
Brother to the late Joseph Davidson, David Davidson and Betsy Moore.
Duncan was a father, a brother, an uncle, a grandfather, a friend, a neighbour, a community leader, and many more to so many others. For many years he was even Santa Claus (played Santa for years with Chelle, ex-wife).
Duncan had a passion for music and could play any instrument he could get his hands on. His love for his Scottish heritage showed through his amazing talent of playing the bagpipes. He was a member of the Legion Branch 28 and then Branch 242 for decades, playing his bagpipes in parades, community events, and anywhere else permitted (haha).
His community involvement started with Operation Red Nose, which he co-chaired for 15 years with Chelle. The two of them were honoured with the Chatham-Kent Police Service Citation; in recognition and appreciation of your dedication, community engagement and committed partnership to enhance public safety in Chatham-Kent through the Operation Red Nose Program.
He was a history buff who loved to learn about everything. Growing up his daily routine started and ended with the history channel. He would often fall asleep watching the history channel, but would instantly wake up the minute the channel was changed. When we would say you were sleeping he would reply with: “no I was resting my eyes and was listening”.
His love of history drove him to bring to fruition Chatham’s very own medieval fair, known to many as Gregor’s Crossing Medieval fair. Duncan and Chelle ran this fair for many years. This was a way for them to share their love of medieval times with the community and to make education fun.
After putting on the fair for many years, it was time to dive into something new. This is exactly what Duncan and Chelle did. Together they created their very own haunted house. This went on for a few years and brought so much joy to so many.
After many years serving the community he and some family moved to the Dominican Republic to start a new adventure running their very own restaurant.
Duncan was honoured with several awards for his outstanding community involvement. One of which was the Queen's Jubilee Medal, awarded to individuals who have made significant contributions to a community in Canada.
The past few years Duncan had been struggling with many health issues. He loved life to its fullest and was always looking for the next big adventure.
People always say the best is yet to come. If this is the case, then this next adventure should be the most fun. Hope you are finally resting, but knowing you, you’re probably planning some big event wherever you are.
Love your family and friends.
Cremation has taken place.
Donations made in memory of Duncan to the Heart and Stroke Foundation would be appreciated.
