John Butzer

Obituary of John Benjamin Butzer

BUTZER: John Benjamin -

It is with great sadness that the family of John Benjamin Butzer announces his passing, peacefully at home, surrounded by family, on Wednesday, August 4, 2021 in his 74th year.

Beloved husband of Diane (Wilson).

Loving father of Jenn Butzer-Goetz and Brad Butzer (Angela).

Cherished Papa of Mackenzie (Baxter), Hannah, Paige, Olivia and Byron and Great-Papa of Bradley

Predeceased by his parents Victor and Mary (Watson) Butzer.

Survived by sisters Bonnie Brown (Jim) and Vicki Spiers (Terry).

John enjoyed sports throughout his entire life, playing baseball (his Tupperville Midget team won the All Ontario Championship), hockey, football, lacrosse, curling and golf.

John played trombone and was a proud member of the Wallaceburg Kiltie Band, the Royal Ascots, and the University of Western Marching Band.

An avid fisherman and boater, John often had tips to share on the best lures to use and the hot fishing spots. He loved to read, often finding great books on local history.

He obtained his Bachelor of Science from the University of Western Ontario, then moved to Alberta for a short while before coming home to take over the family printing business at Standard Press, which he expanded over the years, eventually amalgamating into CM Print.

John was always involved in his community, serving over the years as an Elder at Trinity United Church, as President of the Wallaceburg Kinsmen Club and as PR man for the Wallaceburg Centennial. He was never too busy to help a friend.

John's joy was spending time with his grandchildren, the light of his life.

He will be missed.

A Celebration of Life will be held at the Maple City Golf Course, 10845 River Line, Chatham on Saturday, August 14, 2021 from 2:00 - 5:00pm.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the Kidney Foundation or a charity of your choice would be appreciated.
