Obituary of Janet Horton
Horton, Janet (nee Gammage)
It is with extreme sadness that we announce the death of a loving wife, sweetest mother, fantastic grandma, best great grandma, wise sister, cool aunt, most honest friend, our Ronnalee “Janet” Horton. Janet passed away at home surrounded by her family on Saturday, February 19, 2022, at the age of 75, after a short battle with cancer.
Born in Ridgetown, Janet was the eldest daughter to the late Ronald Gammage and Eva (Pickering).
Beloved wife of Edwin “Ted” Horton.
Loving mother to Chris Goodal (Allison Brock) and Terri Daly (Scott). Step-mother to Sharon Hind (Doug) and Cathy Norris (Scott).
Proud Grandma of Austin Clout (Allyssa), Joe Daly (Brooke), Sophie Daly, Jacob Hind, Jared Hind, Avery Norris and Maclean Norris.
Great-Grandma to her precious baby boys, Max and Barrett.
Dear sister of Stan Gammage (Deb), Terry Gammage (late Sandy), Diane Soper (Al), Steve Gammage, Linda Winter (John) Paul Gammage (Liana). Predeceased by her brother, Mark Gammage.
Sister in law to Jerry Horton (Phyllis) and Sam Horton (Doreen).
She will also be missed by many friends, cousins, and nieces and nephews.
Janet had a green thumb and her gardens were one of her great accomplishments. She loved the spring time and could be found in her back yard pulling weeds or planting her pink, or purple flowers from the many nurseries she’d visit. Her yard was home to many birds, and the odd cat, especially the stray she adopted “Crockett”.
She worked at the Ridgetown Agricultural College for many years where she formed life long friendships. She was one of the most honest people you would meet. She'd always tell it like it was. She’d lecture us about money and investing. She was organized, had a great smile, enjoyed a great meal out, hitting up all the nurseries or cheering on her grandchildren’s sporting events. She enjoyed her shows, Days of Our Lives, Young and the Restless, and Jeopardy. She was fortunate to travel with Ted, camping, ATVing, motorcycling and she never hesitated to brag about her family when she had the opportunity, as she loved us deeply, much like her Pelee Pink wine.
The family would like to extend a heartfelt thanks to the doctors, nurses and care providers Janet encountered over the past few months.
Family to receive friends at McKinlay Funeral Home, 76 Main Street East, Ridgetown on Tuesday, May 24, 2022 from 10:00 am until a Celebration of Janet's life at 12:00 pm - when we can enjoy her spring blooms. Interment to follow the Service at Greenwood Cemetery.
To celebrate Janet’s life, we ask that you take a moment to pass on an act of kindness to another. Keeping in mind that “No act of kindness, no matter how small, is ever wasted” - Aesop.
If desired memorial donations in memory of Janet can be made to the Ridgetown Salvation Army or Pet and Wildlife Rescue (P.A.W.R.).
