Obituary of Gertrude Pickering

PICKERING: Gertrude Jean (Galloway) -

Gertrude was born 97 years ago to her parents, the late Wallace and Leta (Stirling) Galloway in South Harwich on October 31, 1924. Gertrude received her education at the Fourth Line School, Blenheim High School and the London Normal School for teaching.

Gertrude taught for seven years (five years at New Scotland Public School and two years at Cedar Springs Public School). In 1951, Gertrude married Leonard Pickering (2003) and they celebrated 52 years together. They farmed successfully until they retired in 1993. Together they enjoyed dancing, camping and travelling. She was a very active member of Zion United Church, Harwich and was involved with Sunday School, C.G.I.T., U.C.W. and other committees.

Together with Leonard, they belonged to and enjoyed Old Tyme Dance Group and Dresden Seniors. They also enjoyed many tours and travelling to Europe, Mexico, Hawaii, Canada and the USA. Gertrude kept busy enjoying quilting, sewing and enjoying her family and friends.

Proud Grandma of Shawn Winter (Andrea), Sarah Winter (Daryn) and Susan Simpson (Jeff).

Great-Grandma of Aiden, Alicia and Kelton Winter; Teagan and Ally Maxwell; and Brooklyn and Case Simpson.

Predeceased by her brother Blake Galloway and his wife Vera (Pickering).

Predeceased by her in-laws Gordon and Ella Brooks, Gordon and Lena Pickering and Gordon and Evelyn Warriner.

Also missed by nieces, nephews, friends and extended family.

A Private Service will be live-streamed at 11:00 am on Saturday, February 26, 2022 on the Funeral Home website. Private interment to follow at Evergreen Cemetery, Blenheim.
