Obituary of Don Waddick

WADDICK, Donald R.

Peacefully on March 4th , 2022 at Chatham Kent Hospice, with his loving family at his side, at the age of 78.

Born in Chatham in 1943, Don was the son of the late Laura (O’Neil) and Harold Waddick.

Beloved husband of 56 years to Yvette (nee Pinsonneault) Waddick .

Loving father of Dan Waddick (Mandy Stimpson) and Denise (Jason) Postma. Dear grandfather of Doulton (Emma Carnegie) and Kailee (Braeden Nicholson), Ryah, Malia and Hudson Postma.

He will be dearly missed by his siblings Maurice (Kay), Robert (Agnes); Angela Roy; Francis; Ursula (Stewart) Pumfrey; Tony (Nadia) and Michael (Carmel).

Predeceased by his sister Mary Pinsonneault (2020), brothers Edward (2021) and Joseph ( 1996) Waddick, and brothers-in-law Jean Paul Pinsonneault (2020) and Roger Roy (2018).

Don was better known as “Papa Don” and will be missed by his many nieces, nephews and grandchildren.

After 38 years of working for Navistar International Don retired in 1996. He enjoyed working so much that he went on working for Navistar as a consultant. Later took on part-time positions with Commissionaires Securities and Pioneer Hybrid. Been a lifetime member of the Knights of Columbus (Council 9551), and also a member of the Trails-End Range in Kent Bridge, where he made many friendships. Don always enjoyed a good round of golf, tinkering around in the back shed, doing woodworking and loved helping his brothers in the fields during planting and harvest seasons. He volunteered driving patients to their appointments for the Canadian Cancer Society. As well, he dedicated some time to the various Cancer drives such as canvassing for the Daffodil drive with the help of his grandchildren.

Don loved life and enjoyed being with people. He had an infectious smile with a keen sense of humor and truly enjoyed making people laugh. Anywhere Don went, he always ran into someone he knew and he would always take the time to catch up. His children and grandchildren were his pride and joy and he spent many hours being with them. He would let them drive around the yard on the golf cart and lawn mower, and he made the best campfires in the backyard. As well, in the winter time he could be found cutting wood with his brothers and buddy Charlie.

Our sincere thanks to Dr. Lindsay Sutherland for being there for us with her guidance and encouragement , and also to her dedicated staff. Big thanks to Dr. Kate Bailey for her many years of excellent care as our family physician, the staff at VON for their great support and tender care they gave Don at home. A special thank you to the amazing staff at the Chatham Kent Hospice. Their dedication and compassion will be forever remembered.

As per Don's wishes, cremation has taken place. Family and friends will be received at the Funeral Home, 459 St. Clair Street, Chatham on Tuesday from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. The Bereavement Authority of Ontario has mandated that all attendees wear a mask and sanitize. Mass of the Resurrection will be held at St. Ursula's Catholic Church, 205 Tweedsmuir Ave W, Chatham, on Wednesday, March 9, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. A private family interment will take place at a later date.
