Obituary of Milan (Mel) Sojak

1932-2022

A resident of Ridgetown for over 60 years, Milan Sojak passed away at Soldiers Memorial Hospital in Orillia, Ontario on March 9, 2022 at the age of 89. Milan was born October 26, 1932 in Chtelnica, Czechoslovakia to the late John and Justina (Basnak) Sojak. Loving husband of Geraldine Sojak (predeceased) for 48 years. 

Dear Father of Gayle Wells (John Lillicrap) of Orillia, Peter Sojak (Nadia) of Newmarket. Proud Grandfather to Turner Wells (Rachael Wilbrink), Tyson Wells, Emma and Lucy Sojak, David (Ashleigh) Lillicrap, Jayne (Vivien) Robas. Great Grandchildren Kaegen, Nolan, Eliott, Charlie, June. Survived by his sister Bessie Kominek (Frank), Frances Kominek (Stanley), Jerry Sojak (Jean). Predeceased by his sister Patricia Cikatricis (late Joe), John Sojak (Mary), Mary Dinga (late Steve), Louis Sojak (Martha Kys), Martha Kovar (late Al), Joe Sojak (late Bonnie), Stanley Sojak and Infant Agnes. Remembered fondly by many nieces and nephews.

Milan immigrated to Canada in 1939 with his family to farm in Woodlands, Manitoba. A few years later the family relocated to Kent County and they soon settled into life as farmers in the Ridgetown area. Mel was a very proud Canadian and even prouder of his beloved Kent County.

Mel graduated as a Professional Engineer from the University of Toronto/University of Guelph OAC 1965. Mel was employed as a lecturer/researcher at University of Guelph, Ridgetown Campus (RCAT) for over 25 years.

A memorial mass will be held Monday March 14th, 11:00 AM at St.Michael’s Catholic Church, Ridgetown. Reception to be held directly after the service to receive guests by the family. Cremation has taken place. Internment at a later date at Evergreen Cemetery, Blenheim. Memorial donations to the Canadian Cancer Society would be appreciated by the family.
