Virginia Wright passed away on Thursday, April 7, 2022 at the Village on the Ridge, Ridgetown ON. Virginia was a resident of Ridgetown, formerly of Beechwood community. Born on January 17, 1930 in Chatham, she was the daughter of the late George Robert “Bob” Schweitzer and Ida Jean Schweitzer (Crosby); sister to the late George Schweitzer (1988) and his wife Juliana (2006) and Irene McLarty (2009) and her husband Don (1999).
Predeceased by her husband James Wright (1999), sons Gary Wright (2011) and Dennis Wright (2008), Virginia is survived by her son Richard Wright and his wife Wilma of Ridgetown ON, daughter Sherry Johns and her husband Andrew of Belle River ON, daughters-in-law Lyn Wright of Dundas, ON and Sharon Wright of Lindsay, ON. Virginia was very proud of her 11 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. Above all else, family was the most important aspect of Virginia’s life. She will be dearly missed by her children and their families, as well as by the extended families of cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Virginia was an active member of the Ridgetown and area community. She was a member of Mecca Chapter #58 OES for over 50 years. She served as Past Matron, Past District Deputy Grand Matron of District #3, and past Grand Representative of South Dakota in Ontario. Virginia was a life member and past president of Beechwood Women’s Institute, life member of Erie Street United Church and past president of U.C.W. She taught Sunday School for 18 years at the Beechwood Church and at Erie St. United Church. She also took on leadership roles in various 4-H clubs in the area.
Visitation will take place at McKinlay Funeral Home in Ridgetown on Sunday, April 10, 2022 from 2:00 – 4:00 pm and 7:00 – 9:00 pm. As an expression of kindness and caring, the family of Virginia Wright request that those who wish to attend visitation please wear a mask.
A private family funeral service will be live-streamed at 1:00 pm on Monday, April 11, 2022 a link will be made available on this obituary page the morning of the funeral. Interment at Greenwood Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, those wishing to leave an expression of sympathy are asked to consider donations to ALS Society, Heart and Stroke Foundation, or a charity of your choosing.
