Burleigh: Jean Elizabeth (Barnwell) -
A resident of Chatham, Jean Burleigh passed away at the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance, Chatham Campus on Wednesday, April 6, 2022 at the age of 96.
Born in Howard Township, Jean was the daughter of the late Charles and Mabel (Magee) Barnwell.
Beloved wife of the late Harry Burleigh (2010).
Loving mother of Pat Weese (Glenn Thorpe) of Chatham, Dianne Twigg of Chatham and Linda Painter (Chuck) of Prince.
Predeceased by her daughter Barb Nisbet (2022) (Rick).
Proud Grandma to Greg Weese (Tricia), Mark Weese, Joe Weese; Lori Balfoort (Michael), Lisa Heinbuck (Sean Sparkes); Leigh Ann Twigg (Adam Labonte), Derek Twigg (Jessica); Michelle Hamelin, Michael Hamelin (Emma), Matthew Hamelin (Sharon) and Melanie Hamelin (Adam).
Great-Grandma of Devon, Samantha, Trent, Hannah, Brennan; Curtis, Riley, Mackenzie, Robyn; Amy, Jared, Dylan, Aiden, Logan; Teagan, Paytan, Seth, Zoe and Carter. Jean was excited for the arrival of another great-grandson.
Predeceased by her brothers Donald, Arthur and Lloyd Barnwell.
Also missed by many nieces, nephews, friends and extended family.
Jean worked as the bookkeeper with her husband Harry and Gil Verbeem for the former G and H Texaco and Sunoco gas stations on St. Clair Street. She was passionate about card making, designing and mailing many cards to friends and family over the years. She enjoyed, knitting, needle point, traveling in the family Winnebago, camping and boating at Rondeau Park.
Jean was very active with the Salvation Army Chatham Citadel. Jean will be remembered for her loving, caring nature and her devotion to her family.
Family will receive friends at the Funeral Home, 459 St. Clair Street, Chatham on Friday, April 8, 2022 from 7:00 - 9:00pm.
A Private Family Service will be live-streamed at 11:00am on Saturday, April 9, 2022 on the Funeral Home website. It has been requested that all guests wear a mask or face covering at the visitation and the funeral.
Donations made in memory of Jean to the Salvation Army Chatham Citadel would be appreciated.
