Obituary of Dorothy Travis
Travis (nee Robbins), Dorothy May
Dorothy May Travis (Robbins) was a resident of Dresden, Ontario, and presently a resident of Riverview gardens Long Term Care Facility in Chatham, Ontario. Dorothy passed away peacefully on May 23, 2022 at the age of 94 years.
Dorothy was born in Chatham Township, the daughter of the late William and Mandy "Maddy" (Grinage) Robbins on March 29, 1928.
Survived by two of her siblings, Verne, Kathleen Williams (Robbins) and seven predeceased siblings - Earnest, Carl, Glen, John, Edith Jones (Robbins), Helen Handsor (Robbins), Elsie Highgate (Robbins).
Beloved Wife to Lloyd A Travis (2022) for 75 years. Loving Mother to eight children Linda (Bill) Dildy, Louise Travis-Johnson, Dennis (Carole) Travis, Stephen (Deborah) Travis, Arthur, Steward, Tammy Folan-Travis (David predeceased 1956).
Grandmother to sixteen (16) grandchildren and great-grandmother to numerous beautiful great-grandchildren. Mom was very proud and caring of all her grandchildren and their future endeavours.
Dorothy and Lloyd owned and operated Tasty Treat ice cream shake store within Dresden in spring of 1962 for approximately 18 years. Providing the community with summer time ice cream refreshments.
Mom was a great chef within the kitchen when it came to dinners and desserts during the week and especially Sunday dinners after church services. Sharing some of her family secret baking and cooking recipes were often secrets at times and it was difficult to retrieve notes successfully. Asking continuous questions and spying lead to a few recipes.
Watching her daily television "Soap Operas" provided her with daily gossip with her sisters. Mom had the once-a-lifetime opportunity to attend the taping of "The Price is Right" television show in California, one of her favourite game shows she watched daily.
Mom always provided her opinion with no boundaries on topics that we had as concerns. Mom was our solid foundation and expression of love was always felt within her warm hands and face. She always expressed her family history and ancestry so we would never forget our adventurous past and future endeavours. Mom enjoyed her special talent with knitting, crochet, and ceramic crafting; each items she developed provided a smile to a loved one and herself.
Dorothy was a long-term church member and choir member in the following community churches within Chatham-Kent: Prince Albert Baptist Church, Union Baptist Church and Queen Street Baptist Church.
