A resident of Chatham, Janet Maynard passed away at the Chatham-Kent Hospice on January 30, 2023 at the age of 80.
Born in Chatham, Janet was the daughter of the late Leonard and Greta Nead.
Beloved wife of the late Thomas (2022).
Dear mother to Jim Maynard (Jeanette), Debbe Maynard , Carolin Vermeersch. Mother-in-law of John Behnke. Proud grandmother to John Jr. (Deb) Behnke, Dennis Kwasnycia, Joshua (Breanna) Lawlor MacDonald, Jacob (Jessica) Behnke, Candice (Alex) Langmaid, Jordan (Jessica) Maynard, Megan Lee, Brooke (Jeremy) Walker, Rozlyn DeJonge (Mike); great-grandmother to Cali, Lillian, Michael, Kadence, Kharington, Maia, Sadie, Kyra, Liam, Hudson, Aenghus, Monroe, Mary Frances, Presley, Jude and Charley. Predeceased by her grandson Matthew and great-granddaughter Abigail.
Dear sister to Linda (Chuck) Butler, Brenda Johnson, Sandra Nead and sister-in-law to Jean Kemp. Predeceased by her brother Mack Nead; sister's Barbara Anderson, Joyce Marsh, Ruth LaRose and Loretta Dodman. Janet will also be dearly missed by nieces and nephews.
When Janet's kids were young she worked at the Capital and Centre Theaters and the YMCA, she would later begin her home daycare. During those years she cared so lovingly for countless children. She made every day bright and holidays even brighter. Her family will miss her special back to school spaghetti dinners, the licorice drawer and her joy of decorating the house, especially at Christmas. Even decorating her tree while handing out Halloween candy. Every room radiated with the joy of Christmas. Her positive impact and these traditions, her family will carry forward and remember with great joy. She was truly born with candy canes in her veins and tinsel in her toes.
Family and friends will be received at the Funeral Home, 459 St. Clair St. Chatham on Saturday, February 4, 2023 from 10:00 a.m. until the Funeral Service to celebrate Janet's life at 11:00 a.m. Cremation to follow.
Donations made in memory of Janet to the Chatham-Kent Hospice would be appreciated by the family.
