Obituary of Betty Oestreicher

OESTREICHER: Mary Elizabeth (Betty) -

Mary Elizabeth Oestreicher passed away on Wednesday, February 1, 2023 at the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance surrounded by her family.

Betty was born on April 8, 1926 to Sarah Maria and Walter Andrew Murray at Weston, Ontario. She graduated in nursing from Victoria Hospital in London where she met her husband, Donald Lane Oestreicher, pre-deceased in 2002. Don and Betty married in 1949 and shortly after moved to Chatham where Don set up a medical practice.

Betty is survived by their three daughters and their husbands: Elizabeth and Paul Theriault, Dawn and John McKeown, and Janice and Jim Catton; and by her grandchildren: Erin Woods (Tim), Anne Piscitelli (Pino), Michael Theriault (Crystal), Rozalind Theriault, John McKeown, Janet McKeown (Mike Aldworth), and Matthew Catton (Meg Lyttle). She is pre-deceased by her granddaughter, Jennifer Catton. She is also survived by her great-grandchildren: Austin and Cohen Woods; Liliya and Giorgio Piscitelli; Aleigha, Brox, and Cayd Theriault; Mabel McKeown Aldworth and Phoebe Aldworth McKeown; and Delilah and Theo Catton.

Betty is also pre-deceased by her brothers and their wives: Walter and Margaret Murray, Lorne and Ruth Murray, Leo and Viola Murray. Betty’s greatest joy was in her dear husband, Don, and in her family. She particularly adored her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. They were certainly the light of her life. A private family gathering will be held in keeping with her wishes. Any donations in her memory may be made to the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance, specifically to the Intensive Care Unit.
