De Waal, Barbara (nee Phaneuf)
A resident of Chatham, Barbara De Waal (nee Phaneuf) passed away peacefully at the Windsor Regional Hospital - Ouellette Campus on Sunday, February 26, 2023 at the age of 76.
She was the daughter of the late Victor & Florida (nee Bourdeau) Phaneuf.
Barbara will be lovingly remembered by her husband of 55 years, Gerry De Waal.
Loving mother of Karen Turner (Al), Mike De Waal (Melissa) & Matthew De Waal.
Grandmother of Krystal Goetghebeur (Skylar).
Great-grandmother of Jaxson.
Sister of Mary Slater (the late Don), Linda Robert (Louis), & the late Jim Phaneuf.
Survived by her sister-in-laws, Irma Phaneuf, Hilda De Waal, Diane De Waal, and brother-in-law, Martin De Waal (Carol).
Missed by many nieces, nephews & extended family & friends.
Barbara graduated as a Registered Nurses Assistant in 1965 from Hotel Dieu I.O.D.E in Windsor. She retired as an Educational Assistant from St. Agnes Catholic School after 25 years. Barbara was a devoted Parishioner of St. Agnes Catholic Church, a member of the CWL, actively involved in Youth Ministry and was a large part of the Soup Kitchen organizing. Her faith was very important to her and was always helping others before helping herself. Barbara will be dearly missed within her community, her church family and most importantly, by her family.
Family to receive friends on Thursday, March 2, 2023 at the Funeral Home, 459 St. Clair Street, Chatham from 6:00 pm - 9:00 pm. A Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 am on Friday at St. Agnes Catholic Church, 52 Croydon Street, Chatham. Cremation has taken place.
In memory of Barbara, donations may be made to the St. Agnes Soup Kitchen (cash or cheque only) or charity of choice.
