Mary Sinclair (McFadden)

Obituary of Mary Elizabeth Sinclair (McFadden)

Mary Elizabeth Sinclair (McFadden) (nee Richardson)

A longtime resident of Chatham, Mary passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Wednesday, March 1, 2023 at Riverview Gardens Nursing Home at the age of 94.

Mary was born to wonderful parents, the late Charlie & Elizabeth (nee McPhail) Richardson on May 4, 1928.

Mary is finally reunited in heaven with her late husband, Victor Sinclair after 36 years.

Mary was blessed with five children and created a loving home for Betty Caswell, Velma Isaacs (Rick), Donna Parry (Paul), Jim Sinclair (Laurel) & Kim Vitek (Rob).

She cherished her role of Grandmother to Pamela Caswell, Heather Butts (Rob), Brooke Bryce (Spencer), Matthew Parry, Steven Sinclair, Spencer Sinclair, & Katrina Vitek.  And as Great-grandmother to Ellawyn Butts.

Mary is the sister of Charles Richardson (Barb).  She has now joined her sisters Jane Sinclair (the late Claude) and Annie White (the late WR) in their heavenly home.

Mary is predeceased by sister-in-law, Melba McLennan (the late Jack).

Born in Turin, a little hamlet outside of Thamesville, Mary enjoyed farm life with her family. In 1948 she married Vic Sinclair and moved to Oakdale where they started their family with 3 little girls. They moved to Chatham in 1960 when Vic started a new job at Union Gas.

Their family continued to grow in Chatham with the addition of another boy and girl. Mary enjoyed making a loving home for them.

She had a vivacious personality and always made others around her laugh. She extended her love for people through her involvement in the UCW, volunteering at the PGH hospital for 25 years and preparing food for Meals on Wheels.

As children grew up, Mary yearned for more and became a successful Creative Circle Team Leader.  At age 50, she started her own business teaching artistic painting in her own studio, Chatham Cultural Centre and Bear Creek Studio.

Mary’s hands and feet were rarely still as proven by the many blankets she crocheted and the many dances she attended in the community.  Her love of music and dancing were with her to the very end.

The family would like to extend their sincere appreciation to the nursing & PSW staff of Floor 6 of Riverview Gardens Nursing Home for their loving care & compassion towards Mary and her family.

Mary is survived by Ken McFadden.
