Obituary of William Smith
After a short battle with cancer, William Cameron Smith passed away peacefully surrounded by his family at Chatham-Kent Hospice on Friday, March 3 2023 in his 76th year.
Born in Chatham, known as Bill to family and friends. Bill was the son of the late Oliver & Blanche (nee Davis) Smith.
Beloved husband of 46 years to his late wife, Helen Janice Smith (Ward).
Loving father of Amanda "Amy" Smith (Nick) of London.
Grandfather of Buster (Rhyan) & Violette.
Brother of John Smith (Debbie) of Chatham.
Predeceased by his brother Jimmy Smith, sister in-law Wilaine Nordin & brother in-law Derril Ward.
Survived by his brother-in-law, Gary Nordin (Judy) & sister-in-laws Janet (Terry) and Pat Ward. Along with many nieces and nephews.
Bill worked at St. Clair College for over 20 years, and was well loved amongst his coworkers. In his spare time, Bill was an active volunteer with many organizations including Jaycees and Meals on Wheels. He was an avid golfer and in his retirement enjoyed marshalling locals who misbehaved on the course. He was a founding member and attendee of Chatham’s infamous “Friday Lunch Bunch”. Always known for a kind word and a sharp hat. He will be forever missed by his family and friends. We love you Bill.
Friends to be received by the family on Monday, March 6, 2023 at the Funeral Home, 459 St. Clair Street, Chatham from 3:00 - 5:00 pm & 7:00 - 9:00 pm. A Funeral to Celebrate Bill's Life will be held at the Funeral Home on Tuesday at 1:00 pm. Cremation to follow.
In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to the Chatham-Kent Hospice Foundation in Bill’s honour.
