Obituary of Craig Cromwell

Craig Oliver Cromwell passed away on May 8, 2023 in Ypsilanti, Michigan at the age of 67.

Craig is survived by his 94 year old cousin Musetta Eleanor Foster and her family, Brenda Foster, Beverly Foster-Maxey and her children with whom he had an especially close bond, Lisa Wright, Levi Foster, Rebeca Munlyn, as well as other cousins. He is also survived by his loving girlfriend Grace Thomas. He is preceded in death by his parents George Oliver Cromwell and Madeline Craig Cromwell of Detroit, Michigan.

Craig Oliver Cromwell was born on July 29, 1955 in Detroit, Michigan to George and Madeline Cromwell. He was their only child and they lovingly doted on him, ensuring that he wanted for nothing. Craig attended trade school in Connecticut throughout his adolescent years, and returned to Detroit during his later teenage years. Craig had a brilliant mind and put it to use. He had a keen and studied interest in electronics and on any given day you would be able to find him surrounded by an assortment of gadgets and gizmos. Craig was also an experienced electrician having learned the tricks of the trade after accompanying his father on many of his electrician jobs. For many years Craig also owned a cab, and was a cab driver in the city of Detroit.

He is remembered as a caring and kind person, who felt a deep connection and rootedness to his history in both Detroit, Michigan and Buxton, Ontario. Craig was a proud descendant of Canadian ancestors who escaped American slavery in the mid 1800’s, and is the last in a long line of Cromwell descendants. Concluding a long legacy of teachers, educators, and a brave and courageous people.

A graveside service is scheduled for Wednesday, May 17 at 4:00pm at the Memorial Cemetery at 22026 Clinton St, North Buxton, Ontario. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Craig’s life.
