Congo: Donald James

A resident of Highgate, in his 81 st year, Donald passed away at Windsor Regional Hospital on May 26, 2023, after a momentary illness. Born in Chatham, Donald was the son of the late James and Ruth Congo (née McDonald) of Highgate. Don was the beloved husband of 51 years to the late Katie Congo (2021 née McColl.)

Loving father to Karen Congo Farmer of Cypress, Texas, and Allan James Congo, and his wife Jill, of Highgate. Doting Grandpa to Austin Farmer, and Anjo, Jonas, and Joana Sta Cruz.

Donald is the dear step-brother to Kathleen Eberle (Wayne) of Highgate. He is predeceased by his step-mother Mildred Congo, (née Jay) step-brother Wilfred Carey, and in-laws John and Susie McColl (née Parney.) Brother-in-law to Neil McColl (Shirley) and Donald McColl (Nancy) all of Rodney. He will be missed by several nieces, nephews, and cousins – all of whom will fondly recall his personable nature, generosity, love of visiting and a good laugh.

Donald loved and lived his life as a farmer and grew his signature Congo Corn simply to share with others. He was a much-loved, thoughtful neighbour, friend, work mate, and member of the Rodney Congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses. He was known for his years of service at the East-Kent Memorial Arena in Ridgetown, as a friendly school bus driver at Clayt Johnston Motors, and as a well-respected driver at Harold Marcus Ltd, through age 79.

Visitation will be held at McKinlay Funeral Home 76 Main Street E, Ridgetown on Friday June 2, 2023, from 6pm to 8pm. Donald’s funeral service will take place on Saturday June 3, 2023, at 1pm, at the Rodney Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses (22485 McDougall Line, Rodney, Ontario) where all are warmly invited to join. A private family burial will take place at Duart Cemetery.
