Wood: William Alexander (Bill) -
A resident of Chatham, Bill Wood passed away at the Riverview Gardens on June 7, 2023 at the age of 96.
Born in New Blyth, Aberdeenshire, Bill was the son of the late James and Isabella (née Wallace) Wood.
Beloved husband of 70+ years to the late Genevieve (Jenny) (née Jubenville).
Much loved father of Wendy Deneau (Brian) and Cindy Milne (Ian), both of Chatham.
Proud Grandpa/Papa to Janie and her husband Dave Jordan of Oshawa, Jodie and her husband Jason Caron, Rachel Milne (Rick) and Colin Milne all of Chatham.
Cherished Pipi to Kyle Jordan and Apryl Caron.
Loving brother to Anne McBride of Owen Sound and George Wood of St. Mary’s. Predeceased by his sister Julie and brothers Jim, Jack, Bob and Hank.
Bill joined the Masonic Lodge in 1972, he became a Shriner in 1976. Bill was a charter member of the Ahcom Shrine Club of Chatham and a lifelong member of the Wellington Victory Lodge No. 46. Bill was an avid volunteer with the Shriner bingo, fish fry events, and pop can collections. He bowled in a league until he was 91 and loved to play bingo. Bill enjoyed trips to the family cottage with Jenny and family. He was a huge fan of the Toronto Maple Leafs, and some of his fondest memories was watching the game with his family.
Family and friends are invited to attend the visitation at McKinlay Funeral Home, 459 St.Clair St Chatham on Monday, June 12, 2023 from 6:00-9:00pm. There will be a Masonic Service under the auspices of Wellington Victory Lodge No. 46 A.F and A.M held at 5:30pm. A Funeral Service in memory of Bill will be held at the Funeral Home on Tuesday, June 13, 2023 at 11:00am.
In keeping with Bill's wishes cremation will take place following the Funeral Service. A private family interment will take place at a later date.
Donations made in memory of Bill to the Shriners Hospital for Children or a charity of your choice would be appreciated by the family.
