Scott: Dorothy Gray (Edgar) Scott, R.N.
A resident of Chatham and formerly of Ayr, Ontario, Dorothy Scott passed into the waiting arms of her Lord and Saviour at Chatham, Ontario, on Friday, June 23, 2023, at the age of 100. Born in Galt, Ontario, Dorothy was the daughter of late William Gray Edgar and the former Alice Mae Veitch.
Beloved wife of 67 years to the late Clifford John Scott (2016). Loving mother of John David Scott (Candace), London; Margaret Gray Ellis (David), Raleigh Township; and the late Monica Jane Shelton (1993). Mother-in-law to Marta Scott. Proud Oma of Derek Ellis (Lisa), Scott Ellis, Heather Gray Ellis (Simone), Jeffrey Scott (Chelsea) and Magdalen Sinson (John Madden). Great Oma to Isabella, Jennaca; Sophie, Claire; Greyson, Harper; Gloria; Natalya and Tatum.
Predeceased by her two sisters Jean Stager and Marjorie McLeod and three brothers Alexander Edgar, Robert Edgar, and Dr. Hugh Edgar, brother-in-laws William Stager, Robert McLeod and sister-in-laws Marion Edgar, Jeanette Edgar, and Margaret Edgar. Also missed by many nieces, nephews, friends and extended family.
Mrs. Scott was a Registered Nurse, graduating in the class of 1946 from St. Josephs Hospital in Chatham. She was Past President and Life Member of the Ladies Auxiliary Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 28; Past Zone Commander, Zone A3 RCL LA and recipient of the Palm Leaf to the Meritorious Service Award. This is the highest honour that can be awarded to a member of the Royal Canadian Legion. Dorothy was Past President and Life Member of the Afternoon Women's Missionary Society and Goforth Evening Group WMS First Presbyterian Church, Past President of Chatham Presbyterial Essex-Kent. Dorothy was an active member and Elder of First Presbyterian Church for over 40 years and a past member of the Board of Managers. Dorothy received her 25 year pin for palliative and pastoral care at the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance. Clifford and Dorothy each received a 20 year Province of Ontario Volunteer Award. Dorothy was a Life Member of the Lincoln & Welland Regiment Association.
Visitation will be held at McKinlay Funeral Home, 459 St Clair Street, Chatham, on Wednesday, June 28th, 2023, from 2:00 PM - 4:00 PM and 7:00 PM - 9:00 PM. A Royal Canadian Legion walk-through, Branch 642, will take place on June 28th at 6:30 PM. The funeral service will be held at First Presbyterian Church, 60 Fifth Street, Chatham, on Thursday, June 29th, 2023 at 10:30 AM with Rev. Michael Maroney officiating. Burial will be in the family plot at Ayr Cemetery, Ayr, Ontario.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Presbyterian World Service and Development or the Poppy Fund, Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 642.
The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the medical team and staff of Chatham Retirement Resort for the care and compassion shown to Dorothy during her residence with them.
