Obituary of Larry Allan Beck
Beck: Larry Allan
Larry Beck, a resident of Chatham, passed suddenly at his home farm on July 14, 2023 at the age of 73.
Born in Chatham, Larry was the Son of John and Irene (née Shaw) Beck.
Beloved Husband of 41 years to Tracy (née Agar)
Forever loved by his two Daughters: Kristy (Isaac Morgan) Beck and Jolene Beck; Larry was also a loving and adoring Grandfather to Lucy Morgan
Larry was born, raised, and lived his entire life on the family farm, making him a 3rd generation cattle and crop farmer. He was extremely proud to be a farmer and to continue farming the land his father and grandfather had farmed. In his younger days, he was an avid hunter and enjoyed playing hockey. He was also a bit of a daredevil on horseback. Eventually he became involved in horse showing (where he met Tracy), horse racing, and was a long-standing member of the Area 1 Quarter Horse Promotional Association. Larry owned many successful quarter horses and standardbred race horses throughout his life. Larry was a very proud dad, supporting his daughters in numerous sports and horse showing, even taking the reins as soccer coach. Larry’s granddaughter was the newest light of his life, and always brought a huge smile to Larry’s face. He couldn’t wait to see Lucy take the soccer field one day. Larry’s other passion was his vegetable garden, often providing friends and family with the garden’s overflowing vegetables when they all matured at once.
“Just a farmer,” you said
And I laughed ’cause I knew
All the things that farmers
Must be able to do.
They must study the land,
Then watch the sky
And figure just what
Is the right time and why
To sow and to plant
To buy and to sell
To go to the market
With cattle, and well.
You know all the books
That farmers must keep
To pay all those taxes
And be able to sleep.
And you know the fixin’
That farmers must do
When machines like mad monsters
Blow a gasket or two.
I guess when God needed
Folks to care for His earth,
He chose “just farmers”
Cause he knew their true worth.
