Marentette: Gérard Francis
A resident of Pain Court, Ontario, Gérard Marentette passed away at the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance, Chatham Campus on Sunday, July 9, 2023 at the age of 91.
Born in Chatham on March 13, 1932, Gérard was the son of the late Ulysse and Antoinette (née Thibodeau) Marentette.
Beloved husband of 61 years to the late Angéline Marentette (née Blais) (2017).
Loving father of Jacinthe Aardema of Chilliwack, BC and François Marentette of Pain Court, ON.
Predeceased by his brothers Alphonse Marentette (late Evéline) and Roméo Marentette (late Maria).
Brother-in-law to the late Jeannette Howard (late Hank), the late Raymond Blais (Blair), Philippe Blais (late Rosita), Lucille Monforton (late Lloyd), the late Thomas Blais (Gabrielle), the late Romain Blais and Louis Blais.
Former brother-in-law to Maxine Blair.
Fondly remembered by many nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews and great-great nieces and nephews.
Gérard farmed all of his life in Pain Court and retired from Navistar after many years of service.
Gérard's passions included reading, travelling and music, including Big Band, Dixieland and country music. He loved playing euchre at family gatherings and was a dedicated fan of the Detroit Tigers and Detroit Red Wings.
Special thanks to Care Partners Health Care workers Theresa and Sabrina for their excellent care and compassion over the past five years, to the V.O.N. nurse Stacey for her professional care and to the doctors and nurses at the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance, Medicine A and the ICU for their kind and thorough medical expertise.
As per Gérard's wishes cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held jointly for Gérard and his son François at the Funeral Home, 459 St. Clair Street, Chatham on Friday, September 8, 2023 from 11:00am until the joint Liturgy at 1:00pm. Interment to follow at Immaculée Conception Cemetery, Pain Court.
Donations made in memory of Gérard to the Heart and Stroke Foundation would be appreciated by the family.
