Obituary of Ingrid Carney
Ingrid Carney - July 04, 1944 - August 04, 2023
Ingrid Carney, beloved mother of James, Adam, and Craig Carney, couragously fought cancer for two years before passing away peacefully in the sanctuary of the Chatham Hospice on August 4th, 2023 at the age of 79, or she would have said, "in my 80th year."
Besides her beloved children, Ingrid is also survived by her four grandchildren: Amanda, Jessica, Liam, and Paxton. She was predeceased by a son Adam Carney, her late husband Jim Carney, her sister Nellie Arts and her brother Hans Gerrits.
Ingrid or "Ingee" was born in Utrecht, Netherlands on July 4th 1944 and immigrated to Canada - landing on Pier 21 - before settling in Chatham Ontario with her family in ~1958. Shortly after their arrival her parents passed away - further strengthening the bond between the young parentless Gerrits family as they carved thier new path in Canada together.
Early on, Ingrid had discovered a strong passion for Nursing and continued on that journey until she retired. She deeply touched so many lives of her patients, friends and family she tended to and cared for over her career. She is truly an angel.
Ingrid wished to be cremated, and wanted all who she knew to celebrate her life. As she wished, we are hosting a celebration of Ingrid's life at the Chatham Royal Canadian Legion Branch 642, at 39 William Street North, Chatham, Ontario N7M 4L3 on Saturday August 12th from 1100-1400hrs.
