Maine, Helen (nee McKay)
It is with great sadness that the family of Helen Maine announce her passing on Tuesday, August 15, 2023 at Riverview Gardens Nursing Home, in her 75th year. She passed away knowing she was loved.
Helen was born in Scotland and was the daughter of the late Robert & Jean (nee Mackie) McKay. She moved to Canada with her family at the age of 7 and settled in Chatham.
Remembered always by her husband of 55 years, Jack Maine.
Devoted mother of Kim Pratt, David Maine (Debbie), & Kevin Maine (Natalie).
Proud Grandma Helly to Sophie, Lucie, Tyrus & Sadie. Helly Wonka to Peyton, Morgan & Grayson.
Loving sister of Liz Green (Bill), Robert McKay (Karen), & Sandra Jones (Dean).
Sister-in-law of Mickie Sans (the late Don), Larry Maine (the late Lou Anne), the late Donna Jean McLeod (the late Jack), the late Cheryle Norris (the late Ray).
Missed by many nieces, nephews & extended family.
Helen was a stay at home mother to her three children and she also provided childcare to others. After her children left home, Helen started her second career at Canadian Tire where she retired in 2009. Helens love of chitchat was common knowledge to all who knew her. If you saw her working at Canadian Tire and you were in a hurry, you knew not to get in her check-out line. Helen was known for her love of Diet Coke and Lays Potato Chips, a good cup of tea and the occasional Smirnoff Ice. She enjoyed crafting, and appreciated a long phone cord for even longer conversations with friends and family. Anyone close to her also knew not to take a sip of her drink, a bite of her food, or a lick of her ice cream cone — even her children and grandchildren. Helen loved to watch her kids’ and grandkids’ sports and activities.
The family would like to extend their sincere appreciation to the Riverview Gardens staff of 5West for their care and compassion of Helen during her time there.
As per Helen's wishes, cremation has taken place.
A Celebration of Helen's Life will take place on Sunday, August 27th, 2023 at the McKinlay Reception Centre, 459 St. Clair Street, Chatham from 1:00 pm - 3:30 pm.
In memory of Helen, donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Society or to the Riverview Gardens Activity Fund.
