Obituary of Audrey Ameel
AMEEL: Audrey June (nee Trenter)
A resident of Ridgetown, Audrey passed away at the Village on the Ridge, on Thursday November 23, 2023 at the age of 95. Born in Cedar Springs, she was the daughter of the late John and Matilda Trenter. Predeceased by her husband Odiel H. Ameel (2019).
Greatest Momma to Judy and Ronald Osborne, Danny and Darlene Ameel and Marie and Michael Foulon. Best "Gamma" to Regina, Karen, the late Joseph Timothy (1981), Timmy, Sheila, Emily, Megan and step-granddaughter Caitlin. Great grandma to Hannah, Charleigh, Hudson, Eva and step-great-grandmother to Kaylee and Archer.
Dear sister to Glenda Lather. Predeceased by her brother Francis Trenter (1931), and her sister Thelma Jean Gill (2021). Audrey will also be dearly missed by many nieces, nephews, extended family as well as many friends.
At the age of 14, she worked at Metcalf Shoe Factory in St. Thomas. She then attended Ridgetown Agar Business College. She then worked for P.D. Bates Factory where she was responsible for switchboard, clerking and shipping. Office administration at Mickle's Mill, bookkeeper at Mill's Hardware, office administrator at Dr. Orr's, bookkeeping at Ontario Hydro were some of her next endeavours.
Audrey and Odiel bought Springbrook Farm in 1952 where she worked in the fields, always had a garden and raised three children. It was in her 50's that she took up painting: oil on canvas, sawblades, milk cans. She won awards for some of her paintings and was often commissioned to paint family farms and pet portraits. She had an amazing talent as a painter.
Audrey was a longstanding member of the Catholic Women's League in Ridgetown with nearly 50 years of service.
Family and friends will be received at the Funeral Home, 76 Main Street East, Ridgetown on Tuesday from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Mass of the Resurrection will be held on Wednesday, November 29, 2023 at St. Michael's Church, Ridgetown at 11:00 a.m. Interment to follow at Greenwood Cemetery, Ridgetown.
Memorial donations to honour Audrey's life can be made to Greenwood Cemetery or charity of your choice and would be appreciated by the family.
