Obituary of Leonard Casier
CASIER: Leonard H. "Len"-
A resident of Northwood Line, Leonard Casier passed away at the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance, Chatham Campus, surrounded by family, after a hard fought battle with cancer on Friday, December 1, 2023 at the age of 77.
Born in Chatham, Leonard was the son of the late Marcel and Julianna (née Vanroboys) Casier.
Beloved husband of 50 years to Henny (née Verhart).
Loving father to Todd Casier (Lori) and Tara Casier.
Proud Grandpa of Grayson Casier.
Dear brother to Valere Casier (Ann) and Joyce Broad (late Ed). Also survived by his Aunt Shirley Downey.
Brother-in-law to Bill Verhart (late MaryLou), Adelaide Vercouteren (late John), Pete Verhart (Doreen), Nelly Reedhead (late Clay) and Leo Verhart (Pat). He was predeceased by his sisters-in-law Anna VanWissen and Jane Verhart.
Also missed by many nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and extended family.
Leonard lived and farmed on the family farm his entire life.
He was active with the Chatham Goodfellows for many years, and was named Mr. Goodfellow in 2008. He was a passionate collector and made many good friends in his pursuit of treasures.
Leonard was very sociable and made friends easily. He will be remembered for his quick wit and his agreeable and authentic personality.
Leonard was a member of many local clubs, including the Train Club, the Historical Toy and Doll Society of Southwestern Ontario, and the East Kent Vintage Equipment Club.
Special thanks to the nurses, PSWs and staff of the 2nd and 4th floors of the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance for their care and compassion.
Family will receive friends at the Funeral Home, 459 St. Clair Street, Chatham on Friday, December 8, 2023 from 2:00 - 4:00pm and 6:00 - 8:00pm.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Church, 180 Wellington Street W., Chatham at 11:00am on Saturday, December 9, 2023. Cremation to follow.
Donations made in memory of Leonard to the Chatham Goodfellows, St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Church or a charity of your choice would be appreciated by the family.
