Morden: Gerald Duncan -

A resident of Muirkirk, Gerald Morden passed away at the Eden Villa on January 4, 2024 at the age of 93. Born in Orford Township, Gerald was the son of the late Francis and Lillie (née Gillies) Morden. Beloved husband of 63 years to the late Carolyn (née Stewart). Loving father to Russell Morden (Eva), Auralie Morden, Duane Morden (Linda), Blake Morden (Deb). Survived by 6 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.

Brother of the late Donald Morden (the late Doris), Isabel Warwick (the late Russell), the late Earl Morden (Hilde) and the late Ernest Morden (the late Grace). Gerald will be fondly remembered by his many nieces and nephews.

Gerald was born near Muirkirk and spent most of his 93 years there, proudly owning the family century farm. His passion was laying hens, getting his first small flock when he was 12 years old, and selling his final flock over 65 years later. The final flock had grown in size to 30,000 birds. He was actively involved in the larger business of egg production serving as director on the Kent Egg Producers Association, Committeeman for the Ontario Egg Producers Marketing Board and finally serving as Chair of the board from 1988-1995. Inducted into the Chatham-Kent Agricultural Hall of Fame in 2000.

Throughout the years Gerald was an active member of Junior Farmers, where he met Carolyn, Toastmasters and the Kent Federation of Agriculture. Gerald was also an active lifelong member of the Duart Presbyterian Church serving as Sunday School Teacher and Superintendent, on the Board of Managers and as an Elder.

Family and friends will be received at the Funeral Home, 76 Main St. E. Ridgetown on Thursday, January 11, 2024 from 10 a.m. until the Celebration of Gerald's life at 11:00 a.m. Interment to follow at Duart Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations made in memory of Gerald to the Sleeping Children Around the World, First Presbyterian Church Chatham-Breakfast Program or your local Food Bank would be appreciated by the family.
