Obituary of Harris Oickle

Oickle: Harris Melburn  -

Harris Melburn Oickle peacefully passed away with family by his side on January 20, 2024 at the age of 88. 

Harris was born in Upper Cornwall, Nova Scotia. Son of the late Foreman and Lyle (nee Beeler) Oickle.

Loving husband of Betty Lou for 50 years. 

Dear father of David and his wife Jennifer Oickle of Chatham.

Loving and proud Grandpa to Harrison and Bradley Oickle.

Harris was the last surviving sibling of 10. Surviving are sisters-in-law Julie Oickle of Tilbury and Marion Oickle of Nova Scotia. Predeceased by his younger brother Ellery and older brothers Glen (Pauline), Maurice (Betty), Franklin, Carroll (Emma), Cyril (Joan), Floyd (Joyce), infant brother Moran, sister Fay (Don). 

He will be missed by many nieces and nephews and extended family.

Harris found great joy in spending many hours with animals of any kind. Some of his most cherished moments were spending time with his 2 grandsons. Harris worked in the mines in Sudbury for a few years. Later he moved to Tilbury and worked at Rockwell International. He retired from there after 30 years of service.

Family would like to extend their sincere thanks to all of the staff at Meadow Park Nursing Home for the loving and compassionate care Harris received.

Family and friends are invited to gather at the McKinlay Funeral Home, on Wednesday January 24, 2024 for visitation from 2:00 - 4:00 pm and 6:00 - 8:00pm. A Funeral liturgy in memory of Harris will be held on Thursday January 25, 2024 at 11:00a.m. Followed by an interment at St. Anthony Cemetery in Chatham. 

In memory of Harris, donations may be made to the Chatham-Kent Pet and Wildlife Rescue or Chatham Outreach for Hunger.
