Obituary of Edward Coyne

A resident of the Oaks Retirement Village in Wallaceburg and formerly of Chatham, Edward Coyne passed away at the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance, Chatham Campus on Wednesday, March 6, 2024 at the age of 95. 

Born in Ridgetown, he was the son of the late Wilfred & Ester (nee Clark) Coyne. 

Edward will be reunited with his late wife of 69 years, Helen (nee Trevelyan, 2021).

Godfather to Bill Carmichael of Burlington.

Also missed by many nieces & nephews.
 
Ed retired from Chatham Hydro after over 35 years of Service. He was an avid golfer, fisherman, shuffleboard and badminton player. Ed was active with the Chatham Maroons Hockey team for decades and in his later years, ran the Scouting Room at the Chatham Arena. Ed played Badminton his whole life and had a lot of fun playing in Senior Tournaments well into his 80's. He coached Badminton for 3 local highschools, with many going on to win Ontario level tournaments. He was a leader in the Boy Scout Organization for over 25 years and a Peewee Baseball Umpire for many years. After retirement, Ed enjoyed traveling and especially enjoyed many trips with Helen to Hawaii and the 25 years they vacationed at Paignton House in the Muskoka’s.

A sincere thank you to Ed's many friends who spent time visiting him at the Oak's Residence as well as the hospital. Your friendship with Ed meant more to him than you may realize. 

Cremation has taken place. Family to receive friends on Wednesday, May 8th, 2024 from 10:00 am until the Memorial Service at 11:00 am at the Funeral Home, 459 St. Clair Street, Chatham. Interment to be held in Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery, Leamington.
