Prentice: E. Marie (née Edgar) -
A resident of Chatham, Marie Prentice passed away at Riverview Gardens on Sunday, March 17, 2024.
Born in Alliston, Marie was the daughter of the late John and Edith (née Cunningham) Edgar.
Beloved wife of 39 years to the late Hal Prentice.
Loving mother of Gordon Prentice (Sanja) of London and Janet Schram (Rocky) of Chatham.
Cherished Grammy of Richard Schram (Ashley), Connor Schram, Maya Prentice and Emma Prentice.
Dear sister to Bill Edgar (Elsie) and Jean Robertson (Bob).
Predeceased by her siblings, Lois Edgar, Shirley Hopper, and Allan Edgar, her brother-in-law David Hopper and her sisters-in-law Sylvia Edgar and Betty Prentice.
Also missed by her nieces, nephews, friends and extended family.
Marie graduated from the Royal College of Nursing in Barrie in 1955, at which time she commenced a long and rewarding nursing career which ended in 2001. Marie originally relocated with her husband and then small children from Orillia to Chatham in 1967. She was an active member of the former St. James Presbyterian Church and volunteered at the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance for many years. Marie enjoyed a good book, long walks with her dog, spending time with her family, particularly her grandchildren, and was always up for a visit with her sisters Shirley and Jean. She was a kind, generous, gentle woman who treasured her faith, her family and her friends.
Special thanks to the staff of Riverview Gardens 2 East for the excellent care and compassion they provided to Marie during her time there.
Family will receive friends at the Funeral Home, 459 St. Clair Street, Chatham on Thursday, March 21, 2024 from 7:00 - 9:00pm and on Friday, March 22, 2024 from 10:00am until the Celebration of Marie's Life at 11:00am with Rev. Mike Maroney officiating. Cremation to follow with a private family interment to be held at Collingwood Cemetery at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Marie to the Alzheimer Society.
