Obituary of Ernie Summerfield
Summerfield: Ernest "Ernie" George -
A resident of Blenheim, previously of the LegionVilla, Ernest "Ernie" George Summerfield passed away peacefully with family by his side at Riverview Gardens in Chatham on March 18, 2024 at the age of 92.
Born in Raleigh Township, Ernest was the son of George and Edith (née Farby) Summerfield.
Beloved husband and predeceased by Vera (nee - Burk, 2001) and his step children.
Ernie was predeceased by his siblings Laverne (George), Lloyd (Stella), Ruby (John), Jack (Dorothy), Jim (Linda), June (Don),several nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews and a great-great-great niece.
Ernie will be greatly missed by his great niece and caregiver Michelle Summerfield along with 4 generations of nieces and nephews and all of their families.
A Member of the Royal Canadian Army, Ernie was a Guardsman in the Infantry and was a Class 1 Sniper. He was awarded the Korean Medal for his service in defense of the principals of the charter of the United Nations. Ernie was a member of the Former Royal Legion Branch. 28. Many knew him as the Superintendent of Kent Manor before retiring.Ernie loved to play euchre, learning the game at a young age and continued to play all throughout his life. He found solace in the outdoors spending time with family hunting all around Southwestern Ontario.You could always catch Ernie uptown on his daily walks. For years he smiled and greeted people becoming a fixture of the community. Family was a major influence to Ernie, and Ernie was always an inspiration with his smile, all the stories that he told and the joking around that he did and he will be dearly missed by all that knew him.
Ernie's family would like to thank the Third Floor Staff at Riverview Gardens for all the care they provided to Ernie for the time that he was there.
A visitation in honour of Ernest G. Summerfield will take place on Thursday March 21st, 2024 from 12:00pm untl the Legion Service 1:45pm. A Funeral Service will take place at 2:00pm followed by an interment at Evergreen Cemetery, Blenheim.
Pallbearers for that day will be Darcy Begin, Chris Mervin, Robert Summerfield, John Summerfield, Jeremy Summerfield and Skyler Pickard
