Nancy McDowell

Obituary of Nancy Lynn McDowell

It is with tremendous sadness, the family of Nancy Lynn McDowell (nee Solski) announce her peacefully passing at the Chatham-Kent Hospice on Wednesday, May 15, 2024 at the age of 63.

Born in Chatham to the late Walter & Marilyn (nee Mears) Solski, Nancy became a precocious younger sister to Randy, protective older sister to Sandra & Patty, and honorary sister to Cam. While attending teacher’s college, she met the love of her life at the rollerskating rink and began 43 years of happy marriage to Ron.

Nancy was a well-known figure in the community for her compassion and service. While raising her daughters, she held positions on the Home & School Association, volunteered for Sprucedale United Church, the Heart & Stroke Foundation, and multiple other nonprofits. Her charismatic personality and love for the community led her to over 10 years as Executive Director of Habitat for Humanity Chatham-Kent.

Nancy’s passion for life was evident in all that she did - taking every opportunity to travel and seek out new experiences, to adopt new hobbies, and find friends around every corner. She loved perfecting her garden and her home, always looking towards the next season and renovation project. She leaves behind 3 cats adopted from strays and the many ducks, rabbits, and chipmunks that occupy the backyard.

Nancy will be forever missed by her husband of 43 years, Ron McDowell and daughters, Shannon & Caitlin McDowell.

Lovingly remembered by her siblings, Randy Solski (Jill), Sandra Cremasco (Paul), Patty MacDonald (Brian), and honorary brother, Cam Innes (Karen), parents-in-law Bruce & Joyce McDowell, as well as many nieces, nephews & extended family.

Friends to be received on Tuesday, May 21, 2024 at the Funeral Home, 459 St. Clair Street, Chatham from 2:00 - 4:00 pm  & 6:00 - 8:00 pm. A Celebration of Nancy's life will be held at the Funeral Home on Wednesday at 11:00 am. Cremation has taken place.
