Illman: Margaret H. (née Grose) -
A resident of Chatham, Margaret Illman passed away at the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance, Chatham Campus with family at her side on Thursday, June 13, 2024 at the age of 96.
Margaret was born in Gladstone, Manitoba on November 12, 1927, the daughter of the late Vera (Armstrong) Grose (1943), Ches Grose (1973) and Stella (Ibbotson) Grose (1989).
She was active in a number of community organizations as well as being appointed by the provincial government to the Kent County District Health Council and the Board of Commissioners of Police for the City of Chatham. She was the founding chairman of the Chatham-Kent Crime Stoppers.
She was a member of F/O Austin Wright Chapter IODE and First Presbyterian Church.
She was predeceased by her beloved husband Donald J. Illman (2020).
Loving mother of Doug Illman, Bob Illman (Kitty), Gord Illman (Gail) and Barb Capeling (Kevin).
Proud Nana to ten grandchildren and sixteen great-grandchildren.
Survived by her brother Ken Ibbotson (Marilyn). Predeceased by her brother Doug Grose (late Joan) and her sisters Norma Garvin (late Ev) and Marguerite MacGregor (late Roland).
Also missed by many nieces, nephews, friends and extended family.
Margaret enjoyed golfing until the age of 90 and loved to play Bridge and Pepper with her friends.
Special thanks to the care and love received from the staff, residents and volunteers of the Chatham Retirement Resort for the last eight years. Thank you for the exemplary care and compassion received from the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance and the Windsor Regional Hospital - Ouellette Campus teams for the last eight months.
As per Margaret's wishes, cremation has taken place. Family will receive friends at the Funeral Home, 459 St. Clair Street, Chatham on Friday, June 21, 2024 from 6:00 - 8:00pm. A Funeral Service will be held at First Presbyterian Church, 60 5th Street, Chatham at 1:00pm on Saturday, June 22, 2024 with Rev. Michael Maroney officiating. Interment to follow at Maple Leaf Cemetery, Chatham.
Donations made in memory of Margaret to Chatham-Kent Crime Stoppers, the Chatham-Kent Hospice Foundation or First Presbyterian Church would be appreciated.
