Obituary of Shirley Mc Guigan

Mc GUIGAN: Shirley - It is with deep sadness that the family of the late Shirley Ruth Mc Guigan (Maude), predeceased by her husband, Peter Mc Guigan, announces her passing at Chatham-Kent Hospice. Shirley passed on June 28, 2024, at the age of 91.

The family would like to extend their sincere thanks to the nursing staff of the C5 floor at Victoria Hospital for the loving and compassionate care for Mom and Grandma Shirley. Also, to the nursing staff of Chatham-Kent Health Alliance for her brief stay on the 3rd floor before she went to Chatham-Kent Hospice. At the Hospice she received wonderful end-of-life comfort and care. Our thanks go also to Dr. Martha Clendenning who was Shirley’s family doctor for years. Our family would like to give special thanks to all of the Victorian Order of Nurses who helped her over the past few months in giving her the special care she needed. In lieu of flowers, please consider memorial donations to the VON and Chatham-Kent Hospice.

She is survived by her only child Dianne Mc Guigan of Blenheim. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Shane, Nicole and Danielle, their spouses, Nikki, Mike and Jordan, and her 8 great-grandchildren, Theodore, Ivy, Evie, Flora, Selah, Stella, Rosie and Heidi. Also her surviving sister-in-law, Mary Maude.

Shirley was the daughter of the late Rev. Oliver and Eva Maude, and was predeceased by her brother, Philip.

Shirley worked at SouthWest Regional Centre from the day it opened in many office capacities over the years. Her last position before retiring was as secretary in the Trades Department. She really loved that position.

Shirley loved spending months at her cottage in Muskoka and spent more time there than in Blenheim for many years. Even at 90 she stayed there alone as various family members visited for a week or two. She loved watching all the great-grandchildren swimming and playing around the dock. She also loved going for boat rides. In her earlier years of retirement she enjoyed going to all the antique shows in Muskoka, making her rounds and picking up many Shirley Temple dolls and antique dishes over the years.

She was reunited with her husband at the family plot at Craford Cemetery, Blenheim, Ontario, during a private graveside service for immediate family, officiated by Pastor Bill Terris on Tuesday, July 2, 2024.
