McGUIGAN: Mona - (nee Scott)

A 77-year resident of Cedar Springs, Mona McGuigan passed away peacefully with family by her side on Sunday, July 7, 2024 in her 100th year.

Born in Blenheim, Mona was the daughter of the late Samuel and Jessie McKenzie (née Doig) Scott, who immigrated to Blenheim from Scotland in 1924 to work as a Blacksmith.

Beloved wife of the late Jim McGuigan (1998).

Dear sister to the late J. Blair Scott (late Margaret) and Sheila Aldworth (late Major A.W. Aldworth).

Loving mother of John McGuigan (Diane), Janet McGuigan Kelly (late Mike), Marg Marley (Jeff) and Sheila McGuigan (Kenneth McGrath).

Proud grandmother of Scott McGuigan (April), Lee McGuigan (Emily), Jared Marley (Lindsay) and Jessa Marley.

Great-grandmother to Stevie McGuigan; Clayton and Birden McGuigan.

Predeceased by her brothers and sisters-in-law Helen Miller (late Ed), David (late Helen), Robert and Maurice (late Simone). Survived by sister-in-law Tina McGuigan.

Dear aunt to many nieces and nephews. Also missed by friends and extended family.

Mona graduated from Talbot Street Public School, having skipped two grades, and entered Blenheim District High School at the age of 12. Mona had decided at the age of four that she was going to be a nurse and graduated as an RN from Chatham Public General Hospital School of Nursing in 1946. She finished her formal career at Hamilton General Hospital, after her engagement to the farm boy she met on the first day of high school, who she was married to for 51 years.. Mona contributed to community organizations such as the Blenheim Nurses Alumni Association, Blenheim IODE, Blenheim Rotary Ann's, Cedar Springs UCW, and as organist for the Cedar Springs United Church and Youth Choir. Mom enjoyed playing bridge into her '90's at the Blenheim Senior Centre and keeping up with her many friends. Having Conservative parents, she took great delight in telling Jim she was going to cancel his vote....Mona took music lessons with Miss Spackman, achieved Royal Conservatory of Music Grade 8 and Grade II theory and played piano for the rest of her life. She was strong and determined, but always a lady and took great care of her family, so we will thank her for the rest of our lives.

We are extremely grateful to PSW's Tara, Carolyn, Andrea and Stella, Dr. Martha, and caregivers Angela Nichol and the late Claudette West. They took such great care helping Mona on her journey.

Family will receive friends at the Funeral Home, 141 Park Street, Blenheim on Friday, July 12, 2024 from 2:00 - 4:00pm. A Funeral Service will be held at the Funeral Home at 11:00am on Saturday, July 13, 2024. Private family interment to follow at Craford Cemetery.

Donations made in memory of Mona to the Craford Cemetery, Royal Canadian Legion. Br. 185, Blenheim or Operation Smile Canada would be appreciated by the family.
