Obituary of Alan Fraser Row
ROW: Alan Fraser - It is with profound sadness, that after a courageous battle with cancer, that we announce the passing of Alan Fraser Row, who departed this life on August 16, 2024 at the age of 76. Alan Fraser Row was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and a dedicated public servant who devoted 36 years of his life to protecting and serving the community as an Ontario Provincial Police Officer. He is survived by his loving wife and best friend for over twenty years Rose Mae Row (Martin-Capek), his children Angela Birney (Keon) of British Columbia, Alana Vink (Brian) of Chatham, Andrew Row (Aaron Reymann) of Alberta, step-daughter Michelle Picard (Jody Maynard) of Chatham and his grandchildren Sophie Botting and Rachel Picard. Also survived by his sister Nancy Peckett (Steve) and his brother Grant Row (Joyce, 2019). He will also be missed by his many in-laws Jack and Lucille DeSmit, Stanley (1994) and Joanne Griffore, Allan and Anna Marie Martin, Vianney (2021) and Ann Marie Martin, and his extended family of cousins, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his mother Agnes McMillan Row (2002) and his father Harold Row (1985).
Alan was born on August 23,1947, in Smith Falls, Ontario. In 1969, Alan moved to the quaint town of Merlin, Ontario, where he joined the Ontario Provincial Police Department and quickly became known for his unwavering commitment to justice, integrity, and the safety of others. Throughout his distinguished career, he was proud of the fact that he was a constable, earned numerous commendations and the respect of colleagues and citizens alike. His legacy of service extended beyond his professional life, as he was a pillar of strength, a perfectionist, and a beacon of wisdom to those who knew him.
Alan retired in 2005 after a notable career, but his dedication to his community continued through his involvement with the church, as he had a strong belief in his Catholic faith. His passion for helping others was matched only by his love for his family. His warm spirit, passion for cooking, and sense of humour will be deeply missed.
Friends and relatives may visit McKinlay Funeral Home, 459 St. Clair Street, Chatham on Sunday, August 18, 2024 from 2:00pm - 4:00pm and 7:00 - 9:00pm. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday, August 19, 2024 at 11:00 am at St.Ursula’s Church, 205 Tweedsmuir Ave West Chatham, to honour Alan Fraser Row's life. Burial to follow at Maple Leaf in Chatham.
The family welcomes all who knew him to join them in celebrating his remarkable life and the enduring impact he made on those around him at the Links of Kent following the interment at the cemetery.
With deep gratitude, we would like to thank the teams of Doctors, Nurses and staff from London Health Sciences Victoria Hospital, St. Angela’s Meadow Retirement Lodge, Chatham-Kent Health Alliance and Paramedic Services, Chatham-Kent Hospice, and McKinlay Funeral Home for their exemplary care and compassion shown to us over these past several months. As well, a special thank you to one of Alan’s closest and dearest friends, Bruno Moccia, for his support and comfort to Alan over the past years. Lastly, but not least, to our friends and neighbours for their prayers and generous support during this difficult time. Alan Fraser Row's courage, kindness, and dedication will always be remembered, and his legacy will continue to inspire all who had the privilege of knowing him.
