Mildred RUTH Button passed peacefully on Sept 18, 2024, at the age of 96 years, with family by her side. She was predeceased by husband Ross Button (2018) after 69 years of marriage.
Loving mother to Brenda (Bryce) Dagg, Stuart (Jane Lovell), Cheryl (Rob) Kirk, Karen (David) Walker and Richard (Christine).
Cherished Grandma to Alison (Jeff) Negrave, Jennifer Dagg (Andrew Robulack), Melanie Kirk-Hall (Scott Hall), Laura Kirk (Justin Adams), Matt Kirk, Erin Walker, Denise (Chris) Perkins, Kristin Walker (Brendan Howarth), Emily Button (Brennan Wadsworth), Madeline Button (Chris Bigliardi) and Great Grandma (GG) to Graham, Lucas and Ben Negrave, Ava and Max Perkins, Charlotte and Theo Hall, Ruth Robulack and Arthur Dagg, and Bram Button Wadsworth.
Survived by her sister Margery McMullan (Norm predeceased) and many nieces and nephews.
Predeceased by parents Duncan and Mildred Houston, sister Margaret (Bill) Sifton, bothers John (Nessie, Betty Edwards), Andrew (Eleanor) and Robert (Marilyn) and sister-in laws Thelma (Don) Waddell, Helen (Everitt) Lynn, Ida May (Don) Simpson, Doris (Lyle) Campbell and brother-in laws Harvey (Evelyn) Button, Dr Jim (Nancy) Button.
Ruth was born and raised in Chatham, residing in Charing Cross for her married life and moving to the Oaks Retirement Village in her latter years. She graduated from CCI and then received her nursing diploma from the Chatham General Hospital School of Nursing, where she was employed as an RN. She was an active member of the Blenheim chapter of the PGH Nurses Alumnae. She was a faithful member of the Charing Cross United Church serving in the UCW, choir and various groups, especially the turkey pie fundraisers. Ruth had many hobbies, including craft work, sewing, gardening, fishing, camping, shuffleboard and travelling. She loved to gather the family at her table where good food and her tasty home-baked goods were always in abundance. She worked side by side with Ross on many renovation projects, both at home and at the children’s homes.
Family to receive friends on Monday, September 23, 2024 at the Funeral Home, 459 St. Clair Street, Chatham from 7:00 pm - 9:00pm. A Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday September 24, 2024 at the Funeral Home at 11:00 am. Cremation to follow. A private family interment to take place at a later date.
