Konecny: Catherine "Cathy" Lillian (née Foss) -
A resident of Chatham, and formerly of Ridgetown, Cathy Konecny passed away peacefully at the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance, Chatham Campus with family at her side on Friday, September 20, 2024 at the age of 78.
Born in London, Cathy was the daughter of the late Rachael (née Goode) and Tom Spittal and Allen Foss. Foster daughter of Florence Humble (late Archie Cromwell).
Beloved wife of 61 years to John Konecny.
Loving mother of Deborah Konecny (Derek McLeod), Barbara Jackson (Brian), Sheri Konecny, Robert Konecny (Terri) and Melissa Steele (Martin).
Proud and Caring Grandma to Mackenzie Konecny (Garrett); Cory Jackson, Karissa Jackson; Riley Shobbrook (Morgan), Alex Shobbrook, Tristan Schalkx, Shelby Schalkx, Julia Konecny; Chase Konecny (Lydia), Travis Konecny (Karly); Brandon Logan (Ami), Tiffany Logan (Nick Anderson) and Darian Steele.
Adoring Great-Grandma (GG) to Pacey, Negan, Genevieve; Jude, Emrys; Rhett, Beau; and Ellis.
Sister to the late Les Cromwell (Gail) and Tom Cromwell.
Sister-in-law to Mary Ann Konecny, Frances Farrell (Frank) and Joe Konecny (Leslie).
Also missed by nieces, nephews, friends and extended and chosen family.
Cathy impacted the lives of many people throughout her life - from being a Sunday school teacher, Brownie leader, second mother to all of her children's friends, seamstress for Sweet Adelines, coworker, Personal Support Worker, as well as many countless other ways that her family didn't even know. She worked in palliative care for years touching many lives. Cathy's sense of humour and personality made her an instant friend to all who met her. Cathy's love for animals was very evident over the years - from the countless family pets to spending many hours watching birds and wildlife. Cathy has shown her children how to overcome challenges with strength, grace, courage, faith and love.
As per Cathy's wishes, cremation has taken place and a Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
Donations made in memory of Cathy to the Chatham-Kent Hospice Foundation would be appreciated by the family.
