Obituary of Roger Allaert

Roger Andrew Allaert passed peacefully on Saturday, November 9, 2024 at Riverview Gardens Chatham, at the age of 94. 

He is lovingly remembered by his wife of 72 years Barbara (Kendall) Allaert; daughter Ann Myers Symes and her husband Kevin Cooke; grandsons Steven Myers (Angelina) and Jason Myers (Lisa); great-grandchildren Jaiden, Kohen, Zelia and a great-granddaughter who is due in February; as well as chosen family members Amber Fillion, Brian Arnott and their children Finley and Mason; his sister Mary Harris; his brother and sister-in-law Francis and Joan Allaert. 

Roger is predeceased by his parents Joseph & Rachel (Craymeersch) Allaert, his sister Margaret Vandermeersch and brothers-in-law, Marshall Vandermeersch and Lyle Harris. As well as his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Basil & Beatrice (Powers) Kendall, sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Kathleen & John Hunter. 

Roger loved working on the family farm near Dresden and actively did so for 52 years until his doctor recommended, he instead retire and become a gentleman of leisure; he and Barbara then relocated to Chatham. 

As per Roger's wishes, cremation has taken place. 

A Celebration of Roger's Life will be held at the McKinlay Funeral Home, 459 St. Clair Street, Chatham on Thursday, November 14, 2024 at 12:00 pm. Following the service family and friends are invited to a Reception at the McKinlay Reception Centre for a light lunch. Interment will then follow at Maple Leaf Cemetery, Chatham. 

In lieu of flowers, the family request memorial donations be made to Outreach for Hunger.

The family wish to extend a special thank you to Pastor Jamie Tiffin, as well as the staff on 3rd Floor West at Riverview Gardens for their compassionate and heartfelt care.
