Cindy VanDerMolen (née Rumble)

Obituary of Cindy Lee VanDerMolen (née Rumble)

VANDERMOLEN, Cindy Lee; a resident of Chatham. It is with heavy hearts that we announce her passing on December 26th, 2024, age 66, after a long battle with MSA. She passed away peacefully at the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance, surrounded by the love of her family.

Cindy was born in Chatham and was the daughter of Victoria DeHaw and beloved wife of the late Andrew VanDerMolen (2013). She was a devoted mother to Yolanda Mifflin (Gary) of Windsor, Leah Whittall (Steve) of the UK and Mark VanDerMolen (Julie) of Chatham. A proud grandmother to Liam, Sophie, Grayson, Ella, Harper, Oakley and Wyatt. As well as a loving sister to Darlene Morgan (Lindsay, 2018) and Darren DeHaw (Laurie). Dearly missed by numerous nieces, nephews and extended family members.

Mom’s children and grandchildren were the light of her life and everything she did was for them. She celebrated every milestone and lived for every achievement, no matter how big or small. She held a deep and enduring love for her mother, sister and brother, treasuring the bonds they shared and every moment they were able to spend together.

Mom was born with a heart of gold and had a gift for forming connections. She wore her heart on her sleeve and always showed a genuine interest in the lives of those around her. Her thoughtfulness and kindness touched everyone who had the privilege of knowing her. Close to her heart was her best friend Shelley Jay, with whom she shared countless laughs and heartfelt conversations.

For many years, Mom worked as a housekeeper at the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance, where she was adored by her colleagues and formed lasting friendships. Her dedication and warm spirit made her a beloved member of the hospital community for 25 years, retiring in 2022.

One of Mom’s greatest achievements in recent years was learning how to drive, something she was proud of after the passing of our dad, Andy. It was a huge milestone for her and a reflection of her determination. She also continued traveling and enjoyed many trips with her family, creating lasting, treasured memories. Mom took pride in keeping her home and gardens beautiful and welcoming, creating a space where family and friends always felt comfortable. She loved making her home a place people enjoyed visiting. Her two dogs, Charlie and Elsa, brought her great comfort and joy over the years, and she loved spoiling them.

Mom will be deeply missed. Her love, kindness, and strength will remain with us forever. She touched so many lives, and her legacy lives on in the hearts of her family, friends, and everyone who was lucky enough to know her.

Cremation has taken place, and a memorial will be held at McKinlay Funeral Home in Chatham on Thursday January 2nd, 2025, from 6:00PM to 8:00PM. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks for donations to be made to Parkinson Canada (www.parkinson.ca).

We love you, Mom. We love you, Grandma. You will forever remain in our hearts.
