Obituary of Steven Murdock Wheeler
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our father, son, brother and uncle Steve Wheeler. Steve is survived by his two sons Jesse and Joshua, parents Kevin and Pat, sister Lori Brisco and twin brother Jim (Nicole). He is also survived by nieces Zoe and Hannah Wheeler, nephews Eric and Joel Brisco, Cameron and Aidan Wheeler, as well as several aunts and uncles.
Steve had struggles in life from early on but despite these struggles he was able to become an electrician. He completed the Brentwood Addiction Rehabilitation Program in the past and went back to school to obtain his Master’s Electrician Designation. He opened his own Electrical business in Windsor ‘Steve’s Electric’ and would hire graduates from the Brentwood Rehabilitation Program to give them a start as it was often difficult for them to find employment. He was an active member of support groups and would often lead them. Having had real life experiences he was able to connect and help others with similar problems. He had a heart of gold and thrived on helping others. He loved to hunt and fish especially in Northern Ontario with his sons, dad and brother. Time with his boys is what he cherished most. Despite years of being clean, in the last couple of years his addiction reared its ugly head. Steve had a strong belief in Jesus Christ and shared that with others. He will be missed by all of his friends and family.
‘Come to the Lord all ye that are weary and burdened and I will give you rest’ (Matthew 11:28). ‘Free at last, free at last, thank God Almighty, free at last’ (Martin Luther King). Steve wrote this poem in high school:
Life to me is so tough,
I never thought it would be so rough.
Worries, worries through the years,
Why must we have so many fears?
Why do I find it so hard to be proud,
Why can’t I speak out strong and loud?
I used to live my life in a daze,
And looked out on life in all the wrong ways.
Why can’t people understand,
I try my best, but I’m just a man.
Everyday I watch teenagers on dope,
I wish they could stop, and I pray, and I hope.
The evil in drugs is strong and great,
And I fear for their lives because I know their fate.
Alcohol is just as binding,
And your path in life is forever winding!
Some straighten up and they see the light,
And things for them will be alright!
But for the rest there is nothing but doom,
Living in sadness with a shadow of gloom.
If they could only see the happiness in God,
He isn’t a fake and he is no fraud!
I wish I could push away the sadness,
Conquer the evil and strangle the badness!
Then over evil we would win,
Peace on earth, good will towards men!
